Happy Day

Yesterday was a good day.

Congratulations to Antonietta and Matt.

I couldn’t resist a picture of Lally, completely not paying attention.

An evening with the bothered owl

Hubby Karl and our table o'yarn at The Bothered Owl xmas party

Apologies for being a little late with this but I’ve been out of acton with the cold from hell!

Last Monday night was the Bothered Owl Christmas party. You may have noticed I’ve been tweeting about this a fair bit. Particularly the preparation and build up. The bothered owl are a lovely crafty based company who make amazing Lego jewellery, stitch markers, knitting bags and needle rolls. They hosted a party where several yarn vendors got together with lots of knitters and a good time was had by all.

The party consisted of amazing amounts of squooshy yarn, booze, lots of wonderful knitting peeps, home made mince pies (mine!!) and vegan sausage rolls. I was hugely nervous, never having done anything like this before, totally uncertain of what to bring or what to expect.

I and hubby Karl turned up at 4.30pm to set up and being some of the first to arrive we had a good look around at which point I discovered I’d been put next to the Skein Queen. I had even more of a panic (oh my word, big name indie dyer) and started setting up.

Debbie turned out to be a lovely lady, friendly and gracious and her yarn is aaamaaazing!

We mingled, we talked yarn, I had a good wander around and a chat to all the vendors and even managed to pluck up the courage to introduce myself to Jeni from Fyberspates.

It was a lovely mix of new and more established vendors and people wandered through checking out what was on offer, a glass of wine in hand. It was also a great opportunity to meet people and to see which skeins / yarn combinations seemed to be the most popular / attract the most attention.

I shall hopefully be loading all the yarn I have now in stock up on both the artfire and etsy shops as soon as I get the chance to photograph everything properly (with in the next couple of days if all goes well).

The Bothered Owl Christmas Party

I’ve been extra quiet recently, mainly because I’ve been running around trying to get organised for a craft event. The Bothered Owl (they of the fab Lego stitch markers and other such knitting related goodies) have organised a Christmas party, there will be mince pies, yarn and booze! Several indie dyers and crafters will be there including fyberspates and easyknits. It’s near Old Street tube in central London. So far I’m alternating between sheer, blind, panic and ridiculous amounts of excitement. It’s on Monday 6th December, starting at 6.30pm, full details can be found at The Bothered Owl’s website

Now I’m off to panic a bit more and dye more yarn!

I’ve been dyeing …

It’s been a long time coming (too long) but I have finally managed to do some dyeing. I’ve been playing with a merino nylon mix laceweight which is the softest yarn and blooms beautifully once dried.

Here’s a teaser picture:

The problem is I’m not so happy. It’s not too clear from the picture but the dye is patchy in places. It’s particularly noticeable on the pink skein (I think I quite like the effect on the lime green and turquoise skeins). This is probably to do with the way the yarns were dyed (in a microwave). The container they were in did not give enough room for the dye to circulate, the result being patchy areas. I don’t know whether to put them up as they are (because some one might like a more uneven dye effect) or to over dye them. Truthfully I’m leaning towards over dying. Let me know what you think in the comments.
