Un-fucking-believable Wall Street Journal editorial blames competitors and pols for threatening press freedom (not Murdoch); calls paying sources (including, presumably, corrupt police) standard journalism; robs the Journal of its last shred of self-respect and makes clear it is a mouthpiece for Murdoch.
Journalists there, if they have any self-respect left, rise up in protest.

The head of Scotland Yard just resigned.
That follows a story in the NYTimes yesterday that Scotland Yard not only knew about the News of The World phone hacking scandal for four years and did nothing about it, but actively worked to prevent the story from coming out. – http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/17/world/europe/17police.html
Brits tend to trust their institutions far more than people in the US do, but this is really going to shake that faith.

Circle privacy
I don't want the general public to know who I have in certain circles (any family who gets on G+, for example). The settings tells me that I can control this, but so far I haven't been able to find any way to do that, let alone a simple way.
One of the reasons I've decided to try G+ after years of loudly and publicly hating Facebook is G+'s apparent commitment to privacy and information control … but this is a pretty major thing.
So what's the deal, Google? How can I allow certain people or circles to be viewable in my profile, while keeping certain other people or circles private only to me?
EDIT: Here's how you do it: Go to your profile. Click the EDIT button. Hover your mouse over the little Earth icon next to your Circles, and you'll get a menu to change it. (via +WilliamReichard, and others.)
Um … are you fucking serious, Google? Either you're deliberately making this complicated and difficult — a very Facebook thing to do, by the way — or it's profoundly bad UI design.
I realize this is still in a limited beta, so I hope Google will make a change so this is easier and more intuitive to control. Remember that a huge complaint with Facebook is how Byzantine the privacy (well, what Facebook claims is privacy) controls are. MAKE THIS EASIER, GOOGLE. It's the right thing to do.
